Dominus and Cheyne Capital received approval from the City of London Corporation to transform Ibex House, a vacant 250,000 sq ft office building, into a full-service hotel with 382 rooms. Built between 1935 and 1937, this Grade II-listed Art Deco landmark sits moments from Aldgate, Fenchurch Street and Tower Hill. The proposals retain almost all of the existing structure, bringing a rare Streamline Moderne building back into productive use.
The project will celebrate the building’s Art Deco heritage while reimagining it for modern hospitality. Plans include more than 50,000 sq ft of public space, a conference centre with a ballroom, flexible meeting spaces and a new café opening onto the Minories and Portsoken Street. The currently closed Peacock pub will be reopened and more than doubled in size, with Art Deco-inspired interiors and a new speakeasy.
Once open in late 2028, the hotel will be operated by Dominus’s in-house hotel platform and is expected to employ more than 160 people. Dominus will also create an on-site Hospitality Academy in partnership with The Springboard Charity, offering training and employment pathways for local people, with a focus on those who face barriers to work. The scheme supports the City of London’s Destination City strategy, helping to create a thriving, seven-day-a-week Square Mile.
